Where do you find acceptance, love and fulfilment? (2)
Hullo amigos๐
How's the week been?
I know we all had our various experiences. But, however it has been, don't forget that we are all in the process of making for something. Don't get discouraged, weary or overconfident. Just trustingly follow the loving Master as He takes you through your own unique process.
Now, let's continue our discussion from the last post๐.
Still on the issue of sex; it is a beautiful concept though confused and abused. Many people try to fill the void in their hearts with sex.
You know, I've come to realize that some people go into marraige to avoid commiting fornication. They feel that perhaps they can get gratification from 'legitimate sex', but sadly, that's not the case. Infact, some find the mirage so disturbing that they want to go out of the union as soon as possible. It is not a misconception that sex , or should I say intimacy is one of the reasons for marriage, it is not the sole purpose for it (asides child bearing as many think). It is just one of the packages that come with marraige. One vital purpose for marriage is companionship, fellowship, friendship. It's like a picture of what Christ wants with the church; fellowship.
Getting fulfilment from sex is only a mirage. Or what would you say of people that are sex addicts that still feel empty, lonely, unfulfilled after the euphoria of the moment? Not even the thrill of repeated orgasms brings the satisfaction to that longing of the soul.
Research has shown that people who are sex addicts have other co-occuring symptoms such as eating disorders, autism spectrum disorder, substance abuse, alcoholism, boarder line personality disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, etc.
What does this point out to us? Sex can not fill the void in man. Although there might be a form of instant gratification, it only drives man to deeper despair. It just not isn't enough.
Another quick one here: sex and porn addiction often go hand in hand. Pornography is another weapon the devil has used as a mirage to deceive people and think they can fill the void with that. But really, is it for real?
Nah, I wouldn't say it is.
The question remains: what is that 'enough'?
Accomplishments: you can never have enough, you'd always want more. You can never be satisfied, you'll always crave for more. Accomplishments can never be enough to fill that void. One might have accrued many awards and accolades, but it's still going to be like a parched sandy soil, always requesting for more.
Have you ever wondered why many successful people in life are never happy, some depressed, some suicidal, some addicts (drug, sex, etc). It's because no amount of accomplishments can fill that void in the human heart.
I'm mused by people who say that once they attain a particular award in life, or have a particular property, or have a certain amount of money in their bank accounts, they'd be fulfilled. One sure thing is that once they have that thing, they'll still want more. There's a more, but what's that MORE?
Jesus said "The life of a man is not made up of the things he owns".
Luke 12:15 " And he went on to say to them all, "Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because a person's true life is not made up of the things he owns, no matter how rich he may be."
Hmm, that's something.
Accomplishments? It's never enough.
Knowledge: we all go after knowledge, in one way or the other, everyone is knowledgeable about something. There is a system of education which every country follows to impact a basic form of knowledge in people. And it's not an understatement to say that knowledge is bliss; ignorance can be very fatal. The Bible also said "My people perish because they lack knowledge". Knowledge is a blessing to mankind.
However, knowledge is not enough. You can be so vast in knowledge; read a lot of books, studied history, listened to messages, talks, conversations, researched extensively. But, the mystique is this: you'll still want more.
King Solomon is a man I admire in the Bible. He was a very great man; rich, wise, strong. But in the book of Ecclesiastes, he emphasized something: "vanity upon vanity," says the preacher. All is vanity."
It's can be quite consterning that the knowledge accrued by a man can be a source of sadness to him. King Solomon was very wise and knowledgeable, but it seems to me that he was a sad man. He tried quite a number of options: women ( had 300 wives and 700 concubines), wine, books, but he found no satisfaction. He now said something at a verse of the last in the book of Ecclesiastes: "fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man"
It's a mystique !
Knowledge? Not enough either!
Fame: Someone might say " I just need fame. It's enough for me;all that attention from people!" It's quite amusing, but I'll say "enjoy it while it lasts, but it is never enough."
Yeah, there may be a lot of attention from people due to something perculiar that someone has done, or a particular attribute of a person.
Fame is fleeting, doesn't last forever. Life is like a stage; people come, do their thing, then leave. Nobody remains in the spotlight forever.
So, if somebody's hope of satisfaction is fame; remaining in the spotlight, it's a sad, hopeless hope.
All the things mentioned above are good, and add spice to life; work/career, money, sex, accomplishments, fame, but are they enough to give love, acceptance and satisfaction that the soul craves?
Someone might now ask; can I lay hold of that thing that gratifies, satiates, fulfils and..... remains?
Ecclesiastes 12:13
" All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God ( revere and worship Him, knowing that He is) and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man ( the full, original purpose of His creation, the object of God's providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun) and the whole (duty) for every man.
