Where do you find acceptance, love, worth and fulfilment?
Happy 2021 cruising π
How has it been?
Still gathering momentum, or already on the go?
If it's been good so farπ, better and best are definitely going to be the story for the remaining days of the year. If unsure, relax, go back to the secret place for directions....and be quick about it.
This month, we're going to be treating a series titled "Where do you find acceptance, love, worth and fulfilment?
Sounds juicy rightπ€ ?
Actually, it is. Filled with inspiration directly from Abba
Acceptance, love and worth
Everyone longs to be loved, everyone loves to be accepted, everyone wants to be cherished, everyone wants to feel loved, of which you and I aren't exceptions. Some may try to deny that fact, but being sincere, deep down, there's that desire. You know why? Because that's the way we (humans) are wired.
" And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden." Genesis 3:8 (AMP)
God created man for the purpose of fellowship with Him.
He created man as a koinonia being. He loves man that He made a space for Himself in man that can only be filled by Him.
The Holy Spirit will make us to understand as we move through the series.
There is something the Holy Spirit made me to discover: there is a vacuum in the heart of man that can only be filled by God. No other thing can fill it.
Man had been severed from God since the fall in Eden. This has made man to continually be in quest of trying to fill that vacuum, but sadly, they are things besides God: work, food, sex, accomplishments, knowledge, fame......name it. But all these things only render pseudo- satisfaction, which wears away after a short time.
Man is soul hungry...desperate to lay hold on that thing that gives true satisfaction.
Now, let's discuss these things one after the other:
Work : About 5 years ago, I had the battle with being a workaholic. It was a not a concious act, but one thing I discovered was that I only felt worth, useful, fulfilled after I had worked myself to exhaustion. It became my regular pattern. I felt I deserved some sort of punishment if I didn't work the work I should 'work'. At that time, I already gave my life to Christ, but I felt something was not yet complete. I never knew that God was using that feeling to bring me to a deeper level of koinonia with Him. I went to church, but was comfortable just sitting in church, I was not interested in joining any unit, doing more for God, bringing the light of Christ to others. He wanted me to gaze more on His beauty, to sit more with Him, to feast in His word, to completely fill my soul longing.........to stop being a complacent believer.
Don't get me wrong, diligence is good, but workaholism is a lie from the devil that it's your work that defines your worth.
"Unless the Lord builds the house, the builder builds in vain, unless the Lord watches the town, watchmen rise in vain."
People who try to fill this vacuum with work only end up in despair. It often costs them their relationships, families, loved ones, and also robs them of the opportunity of building beautiful memories with the people surrounding them, which will be the only thing that will matter in years to come.
So, do you find worth and acceptance in work?
Food : do you remember the times when you have food cravings? Infact, some might be excessive and you just want to eat a particular thing at all cost. Do you know that at that period, your body is reflecting the image of your soul? It's that time that you need to should do something spiritually enhancing, because if you end up tending your food cravings, you might be temporarily satiated, but you'd end up feeling more empty, like something is amiss.
You know what.......you are still not satisfied!
Do you find fulfilment and satisfaction in food?
Sex : sex is a gift from God, and sex is a blessing when done within the confinements of God's jurisdiction. However, many people use it to fill the void in their hearts, the longing of their souls. It's an aberration to this creation!
People are caught in the web of sexual addiction today. Infact, it has been on the rise in recent times. People try to avoid loneliness, feel loved, feel great and accepted by going into various sexual activities, even victimizing others in the process.
Sexual addiction is not just an issue of sex, it is a byproduct of loneliness, pain, the self-centered demand to be loved and accepted regardless of the consequences, and a loss of vital relationship with God. (Check out False Intimacy : Understanding the Struggle of Sexual Addiction by Dr Harry W. Schaumburg )
What many don't know is this:
You can never use the creations of the Creator to fill the space meant for the Creator Himself....
